Speaking as a woman pushing sixty, I have absolutely no doubt that women are better off in this society than they were when I was a girl. I'd be hard pressed to think of any compelling minuses.

If you can treat women as competent and, at the same time, soften their treatment with tradition, that is fine. I still think that in romantic relationships, there has to be latitude for men to be men and women to be women, and therefore that men should pick up the check, hold the door, and bring flowers on a date. I am not sure what is distressing you........
