There is a difference between duty and generosity. Generosity is beyond what is owed. One does it because it one enjoys seeing goodness in the world, and even more being the source. We smile when we see someone else do something kind, and even more if we do it. There is no reason to resent doing your duty. In many instances, it is not burdensome at all. The main thing is that duty establishes a minimum standard of behavior, and therefore gives one something to use as a guideline.......
