Well, there have been quite a few dead birds found with West Nile throughout Ontario. I think there have been maybe a dozen or so locally. Maybe 5 people sick in Ontario so far?? No deaths that I've heard of. Haven't heard of any sick horses so far -- at least, I can't remember hearing of any. However, I have heard it's worse down your way. I guess it will eventually be bad wherever there are mosquitoes...and there are a hell of a lot of mosquitoes here, so I guess we'll have trouble by next year. Mosquitoes are history for this year though. Have had a couple of frosts and haven't seen a mosquito in a month or so. I figure that if anyone is gonna get West Nile it will be me. I'm in swamps on slow-moving creeks, or in dense forest almost all the time,...and I won't wear repellants on my skin.. just a bit sprayed on my clothing... so I'm a prime candidate, I suppose. Was sort of a bit sick about 6 weeks ago..for maybe a week, so maybe I've already been infected. Too bad they don't have either a simple blood test for it, or a relatively safe and reliable vaccine. Guess that'll be coming before too long.
