You can always get people to agree on generalizations
that is what keeps society running
but it is in all the individual cases where people disagree
that is what I'm talking about

We all support freedom of speech, for example,

Oh? Many CLAIM to support freedom of speech. But the differences are far from being at the margins. In fact, in many college speech codes, they are at the very core of free speech. When a person cannot make the statement "Hitler was right about the Jews" without being prosecuted in the college system, there is no freedom of speech. When one can't use the "n" word of black students, there is no freedom of speech. Heck, even whistling at a woman can get you punished. I could go on endlessly, but you know as well as I do how little true freedom of speech there actually is on the average campus today.
