Societal change, whether progress or regression, tends in loose terms to go in cycles. We had a cycle out in the 60s, the 70s and 80s were retrenchment, had another cycle in the 90s, I think we're in another retrenchment. Will probably last a decade or so, roughly.

I see about that period of time for the fundamentalist revival to wax and wane.

The history of religious revivals is fascinating, if you're at all interested in cycles of human behavior. Much like stock market cycles, bust and boom cycles, etc.
