Informative post, thx. Two comments:

- Minor typo -- strike 21 should show approx. 41K calls

- Have a look at QQQ Oct 15 puts (QAVVN). Data from 2 sources shows an open interest of almost 34K puts compared to the maybe 1K I'd expect at that strike (vs. a whopping 485 calls). Seems a bit bizarre - wish I'd noticed when they 1st appeared (in edit: 20K of them on Sept 16th, 7K scattered thru August, rest during week of Sept 16th). Any thoughts on what this might be all about? In edit: only thing I can think of is someone with a fairly specific vision of financial Armaggedon...

Nice analysis, Mish. Max Pain appears to be 22 from the open interest you show, not 23. I guess if we factor in all the deep in the money stuff it might be 23.

Either way, I think we'll see max pain ratchet down to 22 or below, as the open interest this month is not that high compared with September.
