And having a significant non-Jewish population does maintaining a moderating influence in Israeli society, preventing the Orthodox and Ultra-Zionist Jews from achieving a truly Jewish "pseudo-theocracy".

I disagree; the Jewish Israelis are already over 80% secular. The Haredim and Religious-Zionist parties have clout when they make up swing votes and can play kingmaker in the government. More non-Jews just adds to Israel's problems in devising a cohesive society.
