>> I give up. << not so fast. There's still the outstanding promises to the tune of 1.5B dollars minus change (Ray is wrong, it's not 60 millions so far, it's already a whopping 80 millions delivered) promised to build up the nation and the state.

I guess the 80 millions were used to buy police uniforms and the kites for kids to fly ("go fly the kite" approach)

I see signs of Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder.

Re: But then you expect Bush to just snap his fingers and overcome 30 years of disaster in an instant?

Of course I wanted the Taliban ousted. Do I look like I'm crazy?

As far as what obligation we have to the people of Afghanistan, as the story comes out, the U.S. is very guilty of cruel games of realpolitik that extend back to the Carter years.

Read particularly closely the LNO interview with Brzezinski in this article:
fair.org

It's the clearest statement I've yet found on the Net of how the U.S. has consciously, cynically and immorally destabilized the country of Afghanistan the sake of our evil "Great Game" imperialism.

The mess we have just created in Afghanistan is simply a continuation of an ongoing and cynical policy of de-stabilization. What we are doing in Afghanistan is the antithesis of American principles and the "Freedom and Democracy" that George Bush continually lies about hoping to achieve.
