Not every bubble collapse has led to a great depression. What I am suggesting is that the credit expansion involved in creating and fueling the bubble will be wiped out before a new bull can begin. However, the symptoms from the effect of the bubble popping, I do not know to what degree they will play out. In 1929, the symptoms were severe as we know. We just might end up in a depression similar to that period. The 72 year cycle would suggest the odds are pretty good. Or we may experience symptoms of lesser degree. We have a lot more checks and balances in the economic system that could help soften the blow, but in truth I have no idea how we will fare.
