Provident Energy Trust Acquires Meota Resources Corp.

CALGARY, ALBERTA--Provident Energy Trust ("Provident") (PVE.UN - TSX; PVX - AMEX and PVE.DB - TSX) and Meota Resources Corp. ("Meota") (MRZ - TSX) jointly announced today that approximately 95% of the issued and outstanding common shares of Meota have been tendered to Provident's previously announced offer to acquire all of the common shares of Meota. Provident has given instructions to the depositary under the offer to take up all validly deposited Meota shares.

Provident intends to acquire all of the remaining Meota shares pursuant to the compulsory acquisition provisions of the Canada Business Corporations Act and amalgamate Meota with Provident Acquisitions Inc. effective October 2, 2002. Provident also intends to seek the de-listing of the Meota shares from the Toronto Stock Exchange.
