The SUV people in this one did okay. Bad luck for the family they killed when they were distracted yakking on the phone and crashed into the back of them, setting it on fire and killing the lot.

I don't think it's true that large equal masses going in opposite directions necessarily result in less injury to the contents. Taken to extremes, two motorcycles colliding head on would be much worse than two little cars. But it's the deceleration distance from point of impact to front of nose which matters, in which case long-nosed SUV's would probably give more protection than short-nosed vans and small cars in equal vehicle collisions.

Soon people will be driving huge battering rams!

Anyway, this is off topic, so I'll knock off [though it's Homeland Defence related].

A carbon tax would be a good idea [on imports]. Such a tax would be easy to collect and internal taxes could be reduced. Better to tax foreigners than locals.
