Health care is expensive as hell in the States, IMO

It's a lot cheaper then what we pay for the National Health I assure you. There is a most inefficient mix between public funding and private enterprise too. Lots of nice easy scams going. Perhaps I should open an agency providing qualified nurses to the National Health? A nice steady earner, I should run it from overseas too, so I don't have to pay inconviently high UK taxes on my easy lolly either. -g-

There is some fairly straight forward "boundary conditions" that can determine this discussion imho. This applies to both the USA and Europe.

(1) Private health care is probably the best and most efficient form of healthcare. My family places USA health care (if you can afford it) as first rate. Dentists in the USA are, on average, an order of magnitude better then the guys on the National Health here.

(2) OK, are you going to let all citizens in your Nation to be able to afford private health care? Simple decision really. If a Wallmart shelf filler employee is rolling in the street in agony with a burst appendix (for example) are you going to walk by or call an ambulance? Would you expect him to be treated??

(3) If (2) above is "I would call an ambulance" then it has to be expected that Wallmart shelf filler employees can afford suitable health insurance, and this determines minimum wage in the USA.

(4) Same decisions for people on welfare, just that there has to be an incentive to find work, and all work should be able to pay health insurance.

No other way about as I see it.
