I would risk losing a few artists rather than trying to support all of them. I doubt Van Gogh ever considered hanging up his brushes because he could not get a government subsidy. I wonder what his art would have been like if he had received medical treatment and financial support? On Prozac he may have painted bright cheery scenes of flowers and painted bird houses instead of the images that made him immortal.

Interesting situation in New Jersey.

story.news.yahoo.com

What surprises me is that I hear the arguments that by trying to deny the Democrats the right to change their candidate the Republicans are trying to deny the voters a choice. But what I haven't heard is that the one denying the voters a choice is Torricelli, who has no physical or other impediment to staying on the ballot, but just doesn't want to lose the election. If he stayed on, the voters would have a choice. Actually, since there are two other candidates, the voters have a choice anyhow. Maybe the Democrats don't have a choice to vote for a candidate of their party, but that happens all the time to voters registered in smaller parties. Nothing new there.

Interesting questions.

hmmm
in comparison to what else Uncle subsidizes, I think I'd rather have artists and trees and flowers and fountains. I think I can live without painted birdhouses.
