One thing to remember as well is that the rest of the world is looking for an alternative to U.S. based Cisco.

That being said, I think that Cisco wins in the long term, just that they competitive landscape is tougher than most think.

I also agree with you that the world wants alternatives to US companies. I just don't think most people realize this trend, including the US government. Being the only superpower is going to create resentment..and I am just talking the Europeans!
Well that is another issue that may play out in the longer term..but a lot can change with time.
For example, the Bush administration has now realized how bad of a decision going alone against Iraq can be.
Maybe joining the world in environmental concerns wins a lot more friends.
A lot can happen with time but for now the dominant US tech companies could start facing new problems in the coming years...and that won't help growth.

btw-I notice that Asian techs tend to be loaded up with a lot of debt; that can't help them in this kind of business environment.
