More than just caring about the outcome; seeing oneself benefiting from the outcome.

Seeking an outcome which is to my benefit is, yes, in my self-interest, and is properly within the definition and domain of self-interest.

For example, I posted an article about attempted censorship of books on Amazon. I have written to Amazon to encourage them to hold fast. Even though I have no interest in that book, my action is not simply altruistic or theoretical. I want from time to time to read books which some others may consider dangerous. If I want to keep that opportunity, which is in my self-interest, it behooves me to defend the rights of others to read the books THEY want to read. So I do consider this an act of self-interest even though I have no interest in those particular books.
