Princeton Softech and Brooks-PRI Enhance Application Performance and Availability of Leading Factory Automation Application
Partnership Will Initially Extend Active Archiving to Brooks-PRI FACTORYworks Manufacturing Execution System
Monday October 14, 8:35 am ET

PRINCETON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 14, 2002-- Princeton Softech, the pioneer and leader in active archiving technologies, and Brooks-PRI Automation, Inc. (Nasdaq: BRKS - News), which delivers total automation for semiconductor manufacturing, today announced a partnership to enhance application performance and availability for companies deploying Brooks-PRI software systems.

The partnership will provide a comprehensive, long-term solution for managing the challenges of exponential data growth associated with automated semiconductor and electronics manufacturing systems.

Michael Smith, Vice President and General Manager of the Manufacturing Execution Systems unit at Brooks-PRI Automation comments, "Though Brooks-PRI's software does include basic archiving capabilities, our customers with very large databases can benefit from the advanced features of Princeton Softech's active archiving technology. As the market leader, Princeton Softech offers Brooks-PRI customers a proven solution that can optimize application performance and help increase return on investment in their Brooks-PRI software infrastructure. We're excited about making this technology available to our customers."

The first of Brooks-PRI's applications to be enhanced with Princeton Softech's technology is FACTORYworks®, a leading Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for semiconductor and electronics manufacturers. FACTORYworks customers generate massive amounts of data to support real-time manufacturing and reporting requirements, particularly in areas such as work-in-process (WIP) traceability, equipment management, and process data collection. By removing older data from the production environment, active archiving can reduce the size of the application's database by up to 50 percent or more during the initial archive. Because there is much less data to process, application performance and availability are enhanced immediately. Ongoing active archiving helps manage data growth and can keep FACTORYworks and other Brooks-PRI applications operating at peak performance. Archived data can be stored online in an archive database or saved to a highly compressed Archive File stored on the most cost-effective medium where it can be easily accessed using standard tools or selectively restored when needed. Honeywell's Aerospace Electronics Systems was an early adopter of active archiving in the FACTORYworks environment.

In addition to manufacturing, Princeton Softech's Active Archive(TM) Solutions directly address the problem of excessive data growth in a range of mission-critical environments including ERP, CRM and other vertical market applications. Active Archive(TM) Solutions address the problem at the enterprise level, for both distributed and mainframe environments, including fully integrated "out-of-the-box" solutions for the most data intensive applications.

"As the worldwide leader in semiconductor fab automation, Brooks-PRI brings extensive experience developing and implementing solutions for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing to our partnership," concludes Lisa Cash, President and CEO of Princeton Softech. "By teaming with Brooks-PRI, we are well positioned to effectively reach this market. This partnership continues Princeton Softech's focus on integrating active archiving with industry-leading packaged applications to solve today's most critical data management problems."

Brooks-PRI and Princeton Softech together will actively market products and services to implement complete Active Archive Solutions for FACTORYworks and other Brooks-PRI software customers.

Princeton Softech will be presenting a research paper on the benefits of active archiving at Brooks-PRI's Worldwide Automation & Performance Symposium, the world's largest gathering of semiconductor fab automation professionals, in Phoenix, Arizona from Oct. 14-18, 2002. Attendees will learn about the best practices for managing data growth and how active archiving improves performance and availability, while reducing operational costs.
