The same argument is now being advanced (tacitly, of course) to make war on Iraq --- my lust for oil is to the advantage of the whole world. The larger my car, the better it is for everyone. Dammit, I wish they would need some more gold --- then my leaders could live like Arab sheiks --- and the directors of Anglogold, Harmony, Goldfields and Durban Deep etc could live like the directors of Enron, Worldcom and Disney etc. And, who knows? They might put up the dividends a bit.
