NEW YORK, Oct 2 (Reuters) - Brooks-PRI Automation Inc. (NasdaqNM:BRKS - News) said on Wednesday it would cut its work force by 13 percent to bring the total number of employees down to about 2,550 and eliminate two factories amid a stubborn downturn in the semiconductor sector.
President and Chief Executive Robert Therrien said the company is not changing its financial guidance for the fourth quarter, which ended Sept. 30. Those forecasts excluded any charges related to the restructuring, he said.

"We are proactively resizing our business in order to lower the breakeven point in the current economic environment," Therrien said.

Analysts polled by Thomson First call expect the company to report a loss per share of 30 cents in the September quarter.
