more wars have been fought in the name of religion then for any other reason. Religion and politics are much alike in that they are both control mechanisms.

I fully agree. Religion is just a marker that ethnic groups use to define themselves, like language, color, race etc. It is very rarely the actual cause of violence. Exceptions are the crusades etc. But they weren't ethnic conflicts within local areas.
