And that gunslinger attitude is in a nutshell what makes the rest of the world hesitate to believe and back US military initiatives.

Hey.. what can I say... we're angry and looking to spray some international thugs with a can of "whoop-ass"...

But what the world seems to forget is that they don't have a lot of choice. We're going to do what we believe needs to be done to decrease the instability in the region (Saudi Arabia)...

And, if my hunch is right, we're going to set up a Hashemite regime in Iraq and use them as a counter-weight to the militant wahabbis of Saudi Arabia.

The US is constantly blamed for the state of the middle east.. So I perceive the general attitude, and certainly mine, is that if we're going to get blamed anyway, we'd might as well do what we want in order to preserve our own interests.

And yes... to hell with the rest of the world since they haven't been doing anything but get in the way for the past 12 years.

The US and Britain have been carrying the main weight of having to enforce UN security council resolution, but also the UN's failure to create and implement a truly scrutinizing inspection regime against Saddam.

America are finally realized how vulnerable we are personally to having massive damage perpetrated against our nation, economy, and people.

And the rest of the world might bear in mind that if the US economy fails, the rest of the world will be thrust into the dark depths of depression and regional war.

"And before you say it, I know, to hell with you all we'll do it alone."

Yep. You got it, Condor. We saw in the 1930's a Europe too queasy to confront Hitler. In the '40's, '50's and '60s, we saw a Europe too weak to confront the Soviet menace on their own. We see a Europe now that is reducing their military even faster than Slick Willie reduced ours, so that if they are threatened, we are the only ones that can help them. And the German economy depends to some extent on the huge American troop presence, which Schroder just pissed off.

What would the world do if the US just "shrugged?" As in Ayn Rand's book. What kind of zoo do you want? Guys like Saddam and OBL would have a blast in that scenario. If we withdraw to our borders, your world is in deep trouble. You had better hope we stay engaged.

And before you say it, I know, to hell with you all we'll do it alone.

Or die trying.

The last time "the world" was unwilling to back US military initiatives was Bosnia. Does that make you feel proud?

Expecting us to be any different is like expecting the French to drink Thunderbird.
