It had maximum winds of 145 mph with gusts to 170 mph, then fizzled like the September 26 Nokia WCDMA handset announcement.

Mind you, 100 mph with a 10 ft. or more storm surge is nothing to sneeze at. If it had stayed a strong cat. 3 or 4, we would have had a major disaster, especially if it had turned east towards more densely populated urban areas.
