Aside from our role in the fall of Sihanouk, and the rather obvious problems caused by the extension of the war into Cambodia, you conveniently forget that we supported Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge too, when some stupid China / Viet Nam geopolitical game required it. Just keep spinning the "War is Peace" line, though, that's what you're good at. Ignorance is strength, too.

The Khmer Rouge were supported by the Communist government of North VietNam who were backed by the Soviets.

Actually, the Khmer Rouge were primarily supported by the Chinese, as indicated by its extremely Maoist ideology (peasants vs workers). Some believe it was an attempt to prevent the Soviets from gaining more territory after defeating the South.

Certainly the Chinese didn't want the French or US in Vietnam, but with regard to preventing a "domino effect" of Soviet control, US and Chinese interests merged.

Of course, we held off both the Chinese and Soviets from conquering Thailand.
