Based upon rockhead's analysis I would first ask if rockhead was old enough to vote. Clearly rockhead has no knowledge of what was going on in 1980. So forget 1940 LOL...

WW2 is water under the bridge. There certainly are a lot of questions that can be asked about WW2. Yes, I think supporting the Soviets as our allies during WW2 was a good idea. Germany presented a clear and present danger. Who knew that it would develop into a decades long "cold war"?

In any case, you're right, our support for Saddam in the 1980s was done to support our interests at that time. However, I think we knew what a monster he was and probably should have kept a closer watch on him after the Iran/Iraq war was over.
