I don't think one can sell energy with a cost equivalent of 5 to 10 dollars a gallon of gas. Why process gas into fuel that costs much more per gallon of equivalent energy.

Untill someone can demonstrate a system the has cost benefits somewhat close to todays system, one is speaking of pipe dreams. I don't think 2x would sell. But 3x, 5x, 10 times the cost will never sell.

Even if the cheapest means of getting hydrogen is by breaking the C-H bond on hydrocarbons (to obtain free hydrogen)? What advantage is that? That's what happens when you burn a hydrocarbon.

If I remember my chemistry correctly, a C-H bond is easier (and therefore cheaper) to break than an O-H bond.
