Now, we have to find out who sponsored McDermott's trip....

Interesting letters...typical of the heavily unionized city... but there were two that seemed appropriate to me...

from the PI...
Congressman should be working with the president
I have no doubt that Congressman McDermott's concerns about the effects of sanctions on the Iraqi people are sincere and heartfelt. ("Iraq is ready to open up, says McDermott," Monday.) It is distressing, though, to see the congressman in Baghdad, unfavorably comparing the veracity of George Bush ("I think the president would mislead the American people") with that of Saddam Hussein, a manifest liar and despot ("They said they would allow us to go look anywhere we wanted.")

Is this what passes for "advice and consent" these days? President Bush is pursuing the same policy of regime change that was endorsed (then ignored) by President Clinton when he signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998. Instead of sniping at him, I'd like to see my congressman work constructively with my president in addressing the most serious foreign threat to face our nation in the past half-century.

You must all be so proud... your Congressman Jim McDermott acting like a buffoon on the international stage with Saddam Hussein as his director. Once again, McDermott has proven to be an even larger version of his party's symbol.
