"As many as four U.S. aircraft carriers are expected to be within striking distance of Iraq by the end of December,"

This is the earliest that we can have "enough" carriers on station in the ME, because of the refits going on. With the new capabilities, I would expect four would be enough. We really need one on station near China, with another in reserve, to keep China from causing mischief with Taiwan.

We are now seeing the price we pay for not having 16 carriers in the force. Thank Slick and his pards for that.

Hi CobaltBlue; Re: "As many as four U.S. aircraft carriers are expected to be within striking distance of Iraq by the end of December, Navy officials said on Thursday, marking what may be the earliest possible momentz for a full-scale U.S.-led attack.
...
The four battle groups would bring together as many as 250 precision strike aircraft and more than 2,000 Tomahawk cruise missiles -- assuming the nuclear-powered Washington, homeported in Norfolk, Virginia, and the Lincoln, based in Everett, Washington, stayed on beyond their normal six-month cruises.
"

So much for war in 2002, LOL.

Let's get this straight, okay?

The Navy switches which aircraft carriers are deployed every six months. So the only way that they could avoid sending a signal to you that a war was about to start would be if they kept them all in US ports, LOL.

What I'm saying here is that if a war were not going to start "at the end of December", you'd see exactly the rotations that you're seeing now. In other words, the article provides exactly zero information about a US attack, except to suggest that it won't happen in 2002, LOL.

US carriers have been in the Persian Gulf since 1990. They get relieved every six months. This is ancient news from before the WTC attack, but back then you never noticed that it was going on. It's been going on for 10 years, and it sure as hell doesn't mean that a war is about to start.
