No argument from me on that.

However reading the release:

...will significantly reduce its staff as it evaluates possible alternative approaches to its business...

"Teledesic's global license for 1 GHz of nongeostationary satellite spectrum with international ITU priority is widely viewed as a significant regulatory achievement that is not likely to be duplicated."


The former statement is properly vague and the latter is certainly true. I don't believe that whatever is left is just going to fade away.

Both Inmarsat and Intesat are to be privatized as a consequence of the Orbit Act. (They both make good money and have manageable debt loads)

Both were to intending to IPO this year. (They have a statuatory responsibility to effect substantial changes in their ownership structures by 12/31/02.) It looks like neither IPO will happen given the market.

So what shows up on the wires the day after Teledesic's announcement?
