True...But I wasn't thinking of 104 years ago....was thinking of the last 50-60 years.... To be honest, if we are going to talk about 100+ years ago, we would have to see what was happening in the entire world at the time, and who was doing what to whom.

I do have an interesting book "Chronicle of America"....has articles from newspapers since the beginning of the country, from at least every month, and in the last 50 years, every week.... Plus as you know, googling is amazing to get some perspective on various sides of an issue.

Hey, Noel: Of course we occupied the Phillipines. We kicked the Spanish out and had to fill the vacuum. So what? When they asked for their freedom, we gave it to them. Darn place wasn't worth fighting for, except when the Japanese tried to take it away.

The point is, the US is not an imperial power, trying to take land for our own. We end up leaving places we are not wanted. Even when we were invited in to begin with. Look at Panama. Jimmy Carter gave the Canal away when they asked. Now they want us to come back. We won't.
