There's undoubtedly another side to the O'Neill story. The Frontline report is clearly tilted in his favor. Moreover, O'Neill's easy to romanticize, particularly in view of his death in the 9/11 attack. However, it is hard to argue with the proposition that he was the most forceful and informed voice warning about OBL and his merry band.

But for his talent, his lack of intra-office diplomatic skills would landed him a job as a deskbound agent investigating S&L fraud in Omaha.

They blame not simply the FBI, but particularly former director Louis Freeh.

one gets to hear the complaints of the disgruntled cowboy operator about his wimpy bureaucratic bosses, but doesn't necessarily hear the other side of the story.

I had the same thoughts watching the Show. I thought I could tell when Baer was lying just by watching his responses. He was obviously "CYA'ng" to stay in tight with his old buddies at the FBI.

The thing you have to give O'Neill is that he was much closer to the truth than his bosses were. It is going to be very interesting to watch this coming investigation. I think they will go after Freeh. The Clinton crowd is against him because he broke with Clinton. But he is no slouch at defending himself.
