add an Iraq war, which will spook Mr. Market on its way in but soothe him when it goes pretty well pretty quickly, and I pretty much agree with you--but WTFDIK (an expression that these days is more sincere than ironic, unfortunately). Still, I like his basic point--that what matters is not just objective trends but perceptions of them, and that folks can price in an excessively crappy future just like they can price in an excessively rosy one. And as I said, this is coming from a guy who was deeply skeptical of the rosy stuff, so it has some credibility. Anyway, just a reason not to reach for the noose quite yet--not one to hock the 'puter in order to buy GMST-e calls...

OT: Wages, work hours have been increasing for the 94+% of us still with jobs...a positive sign for productivity gains.

If one happened to be part of the 6%, one did not look at it as "productivity gains".
