Bush likes oil, so how competently has he helped the oil patch? chron.com On Thursday, analysts with Salomon Smith Barney reduced their third-quarter earnings estimates on 21 service companies and drillers by an average of 17 percent. This was a worsening of the situation from just two days earlier when Salomon cut the earnings estimates on 13 companies an average of 15 percent. The Salomon Smith Barney report now expects service company earnings to be down 53 percent from a year ago and down 1 percent from the second quarter. Junior fails friends and enemies alike. TP
