Hi Susan: You bring up a good point; call buying. I often wonder about that. And I've come to a conclusion. This reminds me of an old joke: Line up all the economists in the world and you still wouldn't get a conclusion...or something like that. I happen to have matriculated at school and came out as an economist, or as one friend said, a fruitcake who knew a bit about economics. Anyway, I understand what you mean about call-buying en masse. But for a trader it occasionally makes sense to buy all options if the chart looks pretty.
