I'll answer my own question about a possible alternative.

How about we take as an example that a group asks for a parade permit to march through downtown Manhatten on the two year anniversary of 9/11 to celebrate the bombing of the WTC and honor the suicide bombers as heros. Did anybody here lose any friends in it that would make this topic, which I'm sure is sufficiently controversial, painful to contemplate?
