distinct disregard? What is that?

I think I've posted about this before. There's an attitude, I'm not sure I'd call it a POV, about sharing common space that I find alien that I used to encounter often in the neighborhood near where I worked. Someone would be waiting for a sandwich at the deli and stand right in front of the salad bar, oblivious, where patrons couldn't get to it. So you pause for them to recognize that you are there and move, but they don't. If it comes to a flap, which has been known to happen, they respond angrily with something like, "well, why didn't you say 'excuse me'?" There are people in the world who are aware of the needs of those with whom they share space and people who aren't. The door thing is another example. Those who just let the door go, oblivious, are the same ones who expect you to ask them to move out of your way.
