They are similar but not the same thing. If you consistantly support a principle that normally works in your self interest then you will still support it when it does not work in your self interest enlightened or otherwise.

Yes, I agree. What I meant was that I always applied it in terms of principles, not individual events. It has been forty years since I discovered Rand and I no longer can differentiate between what she said and what I have made of it. I have applied it in terms of principles, as you said, and I have found it to work superbly.

It doesn't. But if you take the principle approach, you support honesty anyway. And, even if your act doesn't directly encourage embezzlement, it creates a negativity that could be indirectly contagious.
