I suppose it was a ghost that beat them in 1990?

What is it with these "ghoulish" metaphors??...

Is it because, even 25 years later, Nicaraugua's economy remains a "ghost" of its former self??

For all of that "glorious" revolution, Nicaragua's GNP is scarcely much larger than it was under Somoza. And until 1998, it was still LESS than it had been under Somoza in 1977. He may have been corrupt and brutal, but at least he knew how to grow an economy and maintain foreign investment.

And gee... inflation is now around 8.3%, as compared to the 14,000% annual inflation that occurred under the Sandinistas in 1988 or so..

Old Daniel Ortega must have been doing a fine job... Because in 1990, Inflation reached 12,000% again (AFTER THE CONTRA WAR HAD ENDED). I mean.. my god.. after all of that ais and assistance that the USSR and Castro gave Ortega, that's all they have to show for their progress you keep referring to??

Nicaragua's economy has been effectively as dead as a graveyard for the past 25 years, so it's little wonder you're seeing "ghosts".
