So you're saying that the people of Nicaragua cared so little for their own economic prosperity that they were content with the economic misery the Sandinista's brought upon them??

What you fail to understand Thomas is that Central America has a cultural problem. Their military has a nasty habit of being politicized and corrupted. So it doesn't matter what name, or form, of government that might be claimed to exist in Nicaragua.. The Military was still the key to controlling the country... And in the case of the Sandinistas, that was Humberto Ortega, Danny boy's brother.

That's why Panama followed Costa Rica's path and went to a national police force instead of an army. And eventually Nicaragua will as well.

That's the only way to break the cycle of a politicized military in that nation.

So don't try and convince us that the Sandinista's were any better than Somoza. They both politicized the military in order to retain their political power.

Btw Thomas... Can you name the largest provider of economic and financial support during the first 18 months of the Sandinista government???

Yep... you guessed it... The United States...
