vix had a triple top breakout - stockcharts.com I have found this to be one of the absolute best indicators! And perhaps the most important indicator is your gut. Look for that feeling of fear in your belly. The point where you say to yourself, "there ain't no way that I am going to buy here, this selling is never going to stop". That's when you start nibbling.

Jorj, u da man! thanks for the charts. I should have been a little clearer. I was actually thinking of buying puts as i figured that the capitulation would occur after October options expiration. But your charts do show that it's not anymore like to happen before or after so i'll just keep an eye on things. and should it come, i will keep an eye on things to go long. Looks like the lockout at the ports might be ending soon. Perhaps we'll get a slight bounce from that before resuming downwards. EO
