<<Hopefully rational reasoning members of Congress and Senate will reconsider what is a very dangerous and ill-conceived push to a world war.>>

Well, I don't think there will be world war, at least not in the sense of the wars from 1914-18 and 1939-45. The US is too powerful for any country to delude themselves that they would win such a war. But certainly there could be steady guerilla warfare around the world. Not the WTC, but what is happening now in Montgomery County (not even mentioning Israel) could happen with all too great frequency. A scary thought.

But "rational reasoning" doesn't always hold in Congress. Ad hominem responses like LindyBill's and "outraged" responses like Trent Lott's toward Peterson going to Iraq are more the norm. The newspapers and networks will have to start spinning the news in a way that makes Bush & Co as outrageous as they in fact are in order for Byrd's position to really resonate and finally make a difference. Letters to Congressmen and Senators can make a difference too, I think (having worked on Capitol Hill for a year, I have a sense of both the limits and the potential of letter writing and news outlets).
