John,

re: Well it doesn't make sense to sit around and wait for the next 9/11. In every other war we have been involved in we got to them before they could bring it here.

A couple of questions:

- Why do you think we were a target on 9/11?
- Do you think an attack and regime change in Iraq will increase or decrease the chances of terrorist attacks, over the next 20 years, on US soil?
- Do you think that we should also attack North Korea and Iran, the other Bush targets?
- Are you ready to use US resources and lives to police the world?

John

There are those that still think to this day that FDR all but invited Japan to bomb Pearl Harbor. It was no coincidence that all the carriers were out to sea. The ships lost in the harbor were obsolete.

Not sure I entirely buy this one for a lot of reasons. First it assumes that FDR knew the "battleship era" was over, a fact hotly debated by the U.S. Naval Command (and the Japanese as well. Second, the U.S. had plenty of warning signs that an attack was on the way (radar contact, midget sub sinking, etc.), and majorly dropped the ball.

As to FDR's political maneuvering... absolutely. He put the Japanese in a position where they would have to back down (and therefore lose face), or attack. Granted, I think everyone thought the initial attack would come in the Philippines...
