. When Reagan arrived, he began the process of restoring confidence to the citizens of the United States. ... I'll grant you that Grenada was small but we needed a victory. From there, we tangled with the next obvious subject--an isthmus. Yes, Panama.

When we pulled out of Lebanon after the Marine barracks were bombed was your confidence restored? When we were victorious in Grenada, was your pride restored? Deficits and debt were bad when Reagan ran for office, when he was running them up, it was no big deal. Does a trade of guns for hostages instill more pride than a failed rescue mission? What's real, what's image? Was the restored confidence real or image? I can find 100, 200... maybe 1,000 opinions that say confidence and pride was restored. Is that reality or is it PR? What evidence would I look to establish the answer to that question? Do I merely shrug and say we don't have to prove things that we all know are true.

I'm pretty confident that many people believe that the UN report in 1998 says that Iraq was six months from a nuke. It didn't, Bush made it up at a press conference with Tony Blair, but people believe it to be true.
