I read a little bit more of Pollack's book this evening at the bookstore. Still didn't buy it, but I was most interested in the anecdotes that demonstrate that Saddam really doesn't want people to tell him the truth, and, therefore, grossly overestimates Iraqi capabilities and grossly underestimates our capabilities. In other words, he's not only an evil dictator, he's stupid, crazy, and irrational. Stupid, crazy, irrational people are hard to predict.

It's a good book, but just not my cup of tea. Pollack is a good writer, a good thinker, and will probably go far.

Instead I bought a history of the Little Ice Age.
