cash or stocks in the 401k ? could CEF be part of that then...unfortunately it trades at quite a high premium right now...

Wayne. Hard to avoid financial institutions

that offer limited choices when it comes to the 401k and most other types of retirement accts. Plus they have custody of whatever the assets are. Mrs Patch is in that situation because she's not self employed.

But some 401k plans do offer you the alternative of a Treasury only MMF, instead of a gen purpose MMF where the risks are rapidly rising, IMHO.

AFA physical gold is concerned? You need a regular (taxable) account where you can take custody as you establish a LT position in physical gold appropriate to your needs.
