its a lock-out, not a strike.

That's right. The Companies locked out because of a worker "Slow Down" that tied into negotiations. These guys make 50 to 250k, the highest paid Union jobs in the world. That is because they have a stranglehold on shipping. Automation of the White Collar clerks is the main sticking point right now. As you know, this has been the biggest industrial saving area for the last 20 years. On top of everything else, this Union is notorious for "Featherbedding." And even with containerization, the theft is very bad. The East coast is one of the last strongholds of the "Soprano" types.

You will never get Union laws changed unless there is a huge landslide for the Repubs.

Way I understand it, its a lock-out, not a strike.

to me,

lock-out means managment does not want workers to work.
strike means workers do not want to work.

They were locked out because they were staging a slow down, as I understand the situation. A slow down is a half hearted strike. ;)

A union will still stage a sympathy strike to support locked out unionists to keep the pressure on.
