I have been trying to figure out what is going on with Bush's speech that is scheduled for Monday. The facts look like this.

I've been a bit out of the loop this week, pretty busy. Didn't know anything about a speech coming up on Monday. Sounds pretty mysterious. The talking heads are usually gibbering about a speech for days before its even given.

Could be to sway the Senate. I really think people underestimate Bush in his capacity for getting his way politically. One of his greatest strengths when he was governor here in Texas was his ability to cross party lines in forming a concensus. I think he'll have the Senate right out from under Daschle.

re: Bush's speech on Monday.

The panel on This Week just said that the word from the White House was, no new news in the speech, but an attempt to answer Americans' questions of: Why Iraq? Why now?
