I haven't been following the Brazil situation. What does da Silva stand for?

A "Pinochet" type of overthrow? Is the CIA going to haul Henry Kissinger back into active service from his second career as dean of bloviating pundits to consult on that one? Will the neocons start preaching "Democracy in Brazil" with their usual ironic sense of humor?

One frequently reads the criticism that the US, which verbally promotes "free trade," doesn't practice it. I agree. I am revolted by our hypocrisy on this issue.

Farm subsidies, tariffs on soft timber and steel, help those in the industry but hurt the rest of us by forcing us to pay higher prices. They take money out of my pocket and give it to someone else.

It's theft.
