Unions _are_ collectivism, surfbaron.

>>let them raise costs to an extent that another competitive entity emerges. or do you prefer fascism and collectivism.<<

The union removes the threat of undercutting or at the very least moves the equilibrium point far above what it would have been. Unions sole reason for existence is to skew free market forces.

>>should I or you care if someone is being paid his or her worth. <<

They are not being paid their worth. In a truly free market, they would not get 100K/year for manual labor.

If you really want to see the law of supply and demand operating unfettered, then let's abolish unions and watch the salaries of former union workers drop like stones. In America, we pay more for our labor and get less. Excepting non-unionized industries like Electronics and Software, "Made in U.S.A." is a joke.

Once unions won workplace improvements and changed the legislative environment, they outlived their mandate. Since then, they have become consumed with greed and have done nothing but suck the lifeblood from american industry for decade upon decade.

By the way surfbaron, I have no beef with you, so please don't get personal. If you think that I don't know how to shovel $H17 with the best of them, you're mistaken. Let's keep things civil, OK?
