I had a cat like that... only she got locked in a basement and we missed her for days... finally searched the neighborhood and had people tell us they had heard a cat crying all times day and night from one house.

Went to door and lady, who was both German and deaf, said to look in her basement and sure enough, Noodles was there... her fur was blackened and she was frantic for water.... gave her water, washed her (was only time she did not object to being held under the shower) and fed her... was good as new.

Got the lady's name off her mail drop and wrote her thanking her for her help in saving the cat.

Only later on did we learn that we had addressed it to "Mrs Mailbox" which was what was on her maildrop in German!
