“The call to love is not for the halfhearted.” —George Sweeting
Hungering and Thirsting for God
Psalm 42:1-2

Have you ever found yourself thirsting for God? Do you understand what David felt as he wrote, “My soul thirsts for God” in Psalm 42?

In reality, each of us will “hunger” and “thirst” for many things in our lives. Studies show that, aside from the basic need for food and water, all humans share a set of spiritual and emotional needs. Love, acceptance, and security are among these basic hungers.

It is not uncommon for people in our society to spend years searching for someone or something that will satisfy their needs. What they fail to realize is that God is the source of ultimate satisfaction. In Him is the acceptance, security, love, joy, and peace for which they long.

What can we learn from this as believers? Here is the lesson: we may not have a lot of “things” in life, but what really matters is that we have God. And because we are His children, we should continually pursue the yearning desire within us to know Him better.

The more we hunger and thirst for God, the more of Himself He will reveal to us. And the more He reveals, the more we will love and trust Him.

So many people will live their lives wondering if God ever loved them. But when we desire Him and pursue Him, He will open our hearts and minds to see things we could not have seen any other way. Best of all, we will experience greater levels of joy, peace, and happiness that are available only through Him.

“The very breath of prayer sustains the Christian life.” —Carl F. H. Henry
Making the Most of Your Prayer Life
Ephesians 6:18-19

How would you assess your prayer life in its current state? Do you pray regularly? Are your prayers answered by God?

If you find that you are less than satisfied with your times of fellowship with God, do not become discouraged. Many believers struggle to maximize their prayer lives, but the Bible has many wonderful tips for improvement.

First, we must devote ourselves to prayer. (Col. 4:2-4) We are to pray without ceasing, and with the expectation of seeing results. Devoting ourselves to prayer means making time for listening to the Father as well as for talking to Him.

Second, we must “keep alert” in prayer (Eph. 6:18-19) , as today’s Scripture reading instructs us. This means we must be aware as we pray. What should we be aware of? The schemes of Satan. The Enemy wants to distract you from prayer. He wants your mind to drift and your heart to be troubled. If we expect these things, we can counteract them by focusing more intently on the task before us—communicating with God.

Finally, we should pray with a spirit of thanksgiving. (Col. 3:16-17) We should never forget to thank God for the goodness He has shown us, or for the goodness He will show us in the future. Thank Him for listening, for His faithfulness, and for the answer He will bring.

Begin incorporating these three elements into your prayer life as soon as possible, and wait in faith for God to honor your efforts.

It is understandable that we may have some bad days and forget how great
and big God is; and for that reason I wanted to share with you this great
and powerful poem. I pray that everytime you feel down or discouraged you
will pull out this poem and read it out loud so the angels in Heaven can
hear and rejoice with you.

JESUS IS:

Lord God Almighty, Omnipotent King, Lion of Judah, Rock of Ages, Prince
of Peace, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Provider, Protector, Paternal
Leader, Ruling Lord and Reigning King of all the universe. He is Father,
Helper, Guardian and God. He is the First and Last, the Beginning and the
End. He is the keeper of Creation and the Creator of all He keeps.

The Architect of the universe and the Manager of all times. He always
was, is, and will be: Unmoved, Unchanged, Undefeated, and never Undone.
He was bruised and brought healing. He was pierced and eased pain. He was
persecuted and brought freedom. He was dead and brought life. He is risen
and brings power. He reigns and brings Peace. The world can't understand
him, the armies can't defeat Him, the schools can't explain Him, and the
leaders can't ignore Him. Herod couldn't kill Him, the Pharisees couldn't
confuse Him, the people couldn't hold Him! Nero couldn't crush Him. Hitler
couldn't silence Him, the New Age can't replace Him and Ted Turner can't
explain Him away!

He is light, love, longevity, and Lord. He is goodness, kindness,
gentleness, and God. He is Holy, Righteous, mighty, powerful, and pure.
His ways are right, His Word is eternal, His will is unchanging, and His
mind is on me! His is my redeemer, He is my Saviour, He is my guide, He is
my peace, He is my Joy, He is my comfort, He is my Lord and He rules my
life. I serve Him because His bond is love, His burden is light, and His
goal for me is abundant life. I follow Him because He is the wisdom of
the wise, the power of the powerful, the ancient of days, the ruler of
rulers, the leader of leaders, the overseer of the overcomers, and the
sovereign Lord of all that was, is and is to come. And if that seems
impressive to you, try this for size. His goal is a relationship with ME!
He will never leave me, forsake me, mislead me, forget me, overlook me,
and never cancel my appointment in His appointment book!

When I fall, He lifts me up. When I fail, He forgives me. When I am weak,
He is strong. When I am lost, He is The Way. When I am afraid, He is my
courage. When I stumble, He steadies me. When I am hurt, He heals me.
When I am broken, He mends me. When I am blind, He leads me. When I am
hungry, He feeds me. When I face trials, He is with me. When I face
persecution, He stills me. When I face problems, He comforts me. When I
face loss, He provides for me. When I face Death, He carries me Home!

He is everything for everybody, everywhere, every time, and in every way.
He is God, He is faithful, I am His, and He is mine. My Father in Heaven
can whip the father of this world, and so, if you're wondering why I feel
so secure, understand this: He said it, and that settles it. God is in
control, I am on His side, and that means all is well with my soul.

Be encouraged and know that God is still on the throne and holds the world
in the palm of His hand, so whatever problems that you cannot solve; give
it to God and ask Him to solve it and see His miracle working power take
place. God Himself declares in Jeremiah 32:27 "Behold, I am the LORD, the
God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?"

Be confident in the Lord for He is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34)
and loves all His children equally. He has written your name on the palms
of His hands, so never think God has forgotten you (Isaiah 49:16). When
you come before the Lord asking Him to meet your need, believe that you
will receive and you shall have whatsoever you have asked according to His
will for your life. (1 John 5:14)

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do
not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever
you go."

Psalm 23:1-4 "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to
lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He
restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his
name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they
comfort me."

Isaiah 49:14-16 "But Zion said, The LORD hath forsaken me, and my Lord
hath forgotten me. Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should
not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will
I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands;
thy walls are continually before me."
