Loans to airlines and companies who lease aircraft to airlines are an example of pending bad loans that haven't hit the books yet. Example: UAL operates 600 aircraft. The market cap for UAL probably wouldn't cover their facilities and equipment. UAL has said that they may be bankrupt by the end of the year. When they go into chapter 11, the banks and capital equipment companies financing UAL will be in deep s*#%.
